“For I know that this shall turn out to my salvation, through your supplication and the supply of the Spirit of Jesus Christ, according to my earnest expectation and hope, that in nothing shall I be put to shame, but that with all boldness, as always, so now also Christ shall be magnified in my body, whether by life, or by death.” (Philippians 1:19–20, ASV)
I have heard many preachers say that, “We are indestructible until our mission here on earth is complete. Then the Lord takes us home.” It is a truth for every believer. Every believer has eternal life, and every believer has a mission for the Lord here on this earth.
It is a truth that we are indestructible. Though the body may perish, we shall never die. This is what the Lord stated to Martha after Lazarus died and before Jesus raised him.
“Jesus said unto her, I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth on me, though he die, yet shall he live; and whosoever liveth and believeth on me shall never die.” (John 11:25–26, ASV)
We who have believed in Jesus shall never die.
What happens when our work on earth is done? The Lord takes us to our heavenly home. When I was in the United States Army, I was stationed in the Federal Republic of Germany during the Cold War. I was there three and a half years. In all that time I had not been back in the United States. I remember the day I got on an airplane and flew back home. It was a great feeling to be back to my home country. I was greeted at the airport in New York by my mom, may dad, and my wife. I was home.
Every believer is a citizen of heaven. We are also members of God’s family. When we leave this life on earth, in a miraculous way the Lord transports us to our true home in heaven and to our eternal family. That will be a day of great rejoicing. The hymn writer wrote of that day, “When we all get to heaven, what a day of rejoicing that will be. When we all see Jesus, we’ll sing and shout the victory.”
