“So they set out from the mount of the Lord three days’ journey. And the ark of the covenant of the Lord went before them three days’ journey, to seek out a resting place for them.” (Numbers 10:33, ESV)
As Israel journeyed to Canaan, the Ark of the Covenant of the Lord went before them. The interesting thing about the Ark is that it was a direct manifestation of God’s presence. As Israel journeyed to accomplish the purposes of God, the Lord’s manifest presence accompanied them, guaranteeing them the ability to accomplish the mission.
What a blessing it is to have guarantees in life. However, we often go through life with little confidence because we do not sense that we have the guarantee of success. Yet the Scriptures give each of us as believers tremendous guarantees. The greatest of which is our guarantee of eternal life. Yet we also have guarantees that carry us through until that glorious day when we enter the abode of God. We have a guarantee of success in the calling of God on our lives.
We, the church, have a great mission. Jesus gave this mission to the disciples and it has been transferred to every succeeding generation of believers. we know it as the Great Commission.
“Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.” (Matthew 28:19-20, ESV)
As the Israelites had the guarantee of God’s presence to accomplish their mission, we also have the same guarantee. Jesus told his disciples that He would be with them “always, even until the end of age.”
We have a great guarantee of success in accomplishing the Great Commission because Jesus is always with us. After all, it is His mission, and He, God the Son, will ensure our success in it. Therefore, we ought not to be timid in accepting our part in this Great Commission, for we cannot fail.
