“if my people who are called by my name humble themselves, and pray and seek my face” (2 Chronicles 7:14, ESV)
“You will seek me and find me, when you seek me with all your heart.” (Jeremiah 29:13, ESV)
One of the reasons revival tarries is that we do not passionately seek the Lord. Most professing Christians do not seek the Lord as if they are seeking something which is vital.
What does it mean to seek the Lord with a whole heart? It means to seek Him as if nothing else matters. It means to seek Him with a singleness of focus, with complete energy, and allowing nothing to interfere.
How do we do it? We do it by removing the obstacles and the idols that interfere and distract us from our relationship with Him. Many people allow everything and anything to get in the way of their relationship with Him.
This is a matter of changing the priorities of our lives. It is not legalistic obedience to a set of manmade rules. It is focusing on embracing and enjoying our relationship with the Lord. It involves reading and studying the Scriptures, not legalistically, but with a desire to hear from the Lord. Combined with this is prayer. As we read and study the Scripture, we should be communicating with the Lord in prayer, conversing with Him regarding the application of His word to our hearts.
Consider this exhortation from Isaiah. “Seek the Lord while he may be found; call upon him while he is near;” (Isaiah 55:6, ESV) Let us reprioritize our lives to seek the Lord with a whole heart.
