“if my people who are called by my name humble themselves”
“Pride goes before destruction, and a haughty spirit before a fall.” (Proverbs 16:18, ESV)
Pride is the antithesis of humility. It is a problem with which every believer and every church struggles. Those who say they do not are filled with the very problem they deny they have.
Pride will kill any hope of revival. It is a problem prevalent in churches today.
there are two aspects of this in the church. 1) Self-glorification, which is staling the glory from God. It is characterized by the statement, “Look what I have done.” 2) Self-sufficiency, which is doing things with human strength and ingenuity. It is characterized by the statement, “I can do it myself,” apart from God.
This is a real problem in the lives of believers and in churches. Believers might try to do the right things the wrong way, that is contrary to Scripture. This is disobedience.
Churches, that is congregations, will often glory in their own accomplishments. Very often they will trust in church models, programs, buildings, worship styles, and etcetera to build the church. This is a problem of trusting things rather than the Lord to build the church. These attitudes will kill revival.
Remember this, “Whoever exalts himself will be humbled, and whoever humbles himself will be exalted.” (Matthew 23:12, ESV) When churches can truly humble themselves, they will be on the footsteps to experiencing true revival.
